What to see in Tabarca

Nueva Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Valencian Community, home to about 51 residents. In 1769‑70, King Charles III settled here families of Genoese‑Tunisian origin who had been freed from captivity in Tabarka (Tunisia), forming a community with its own dialect and cuisine. The entire island has been a Conjunto Histórico‑Artístico since 1964, featuring a pueblo amurallado, a faro, and the iglesia of Sant Pere i Sant Pau. The surrounding waters form Spain’s first marine reserve.
